The golden pheasant,
Chrysolophus pictus, has long, bright yellow headfeathers. It is native to the
mountains of central and western
China, where it roosts in trees and spends its days scratching at the ground for berries, seeds, and
insects. Like all game
birds, it flies for only short hops but can take off almost vertically with its muscular wings.
